At Rødde folkehøgskole we have six major subjects three days a week. You choose one of these subjects when you submit an application. In addition to the major subject, you have electives, common subjects, seminars, project week and study trips. The school year lasts from august to may. All instructions and information during the school year is only given in Norwegian. Norwegians, however, understand and speak English quite well, but we recommend foreign students to try to learn some Norwegian before starting at Rødde.
A folk high school year lasts nine months, from August to May. Most students attend folk high schools right after graduating from high school (upper secondary school). The folk high school year is for most students a year of maturation and makes them better prepared to study or work and the life to follow.

Rødde Folk High School is located just outside Trondheim – the “big little city” offering food, history, art, culture, nature, shopping, and much more. At the same time, you’ll have mountains and forests right nearby, with opportunities for hiking, climbing, and skiing in Vassfjellet. It truly gives you the best of both worlds: the energy of the city and the calm of nature.

Folk high school is a Nordic school type which has existed for over 100 years. The school year is often a break between hight school and higher education.

The school fees include program costs, study trips, meals, accommodation, and internet.





Some foreign applicants must pay a fee to the school before applying for a residence permit.The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) requires that applicants from countries outside the EU/EEA make a security deposit (a “good faith payment”) in the school’s bank account before processing an application for a residence permit. This money will be refunded if the application is rejected.

The school has 28 double rooms with bathrooms, 20 double rooms without bathrooms, and a few single rooms with or without bathrooms. If you have medical reasons for needing a single room, please mention this in your application. Rooms are allocated shortly before the school year begins. If a student leaves or loses their place during the school year, they must pay for accommodation for six weeks after they leave. This is a common rule for folkehøgskoler in Norway.
Our skilled kitchen staff prepare special diets and vegetarian meals for those who notify us before the start of school. Allergies must be documented with a medical certificate. Special diets and vegetarian meals may incur an additional cost.

Double room with bathroom. The room offers ample closet space, your own bed with storage underneath, a shelf, a personal desk, and a corkboard. The bathroom includes a private shower, toilet, and plenty of storage space.

The school has very few single rooms. If you have medical reasons for requiring a single room, please mention it in your application.
If you are assigned a single room without a bathroom, you will be accommodated at Sørblåst.

Double room without bathroom. The room includes your own bed with storage options, shelves above the bed, and a personal desk. While there is no bathroom in the room, you do have a mirror and a sink. The bathroom and shower are located in the hallway, so you won't have to go far.
