At Rødde folkehøgskole we have six major subjects three days a week. You choose one of theese subjects when you submit an application. In addition to the major subject, you have electives, common subjects, seminars, project week and study trips. The school year lasts from August to May. All instructions and information during the school year is only given in Norwegian. Norwegians, however, understand and speak English quite well, but we recommend foreign students to try to learn some Norwegian before starting at Rødde.

A folk high school year lasts nine months, from August to May. Most students attend folk high schools right after graduating from high school (upper secondary school). The folk high school year is for most students a year of maturation and makes them better prepared to study or work and the life to follow.
Here, you can learn and grow without the pressure of exams and grades. You’ll build knowledge and skills while experiencing personal growth and stepping out of your comfort zone in a supportive environment. It’s no wonder our students say, “This is the best year of my life!”
We are a Christian folk high school, welcoming everyone regardless of their beliefs. You’ll be met with respect, no matter your perspective. We aim to foster reflection on faith and life's big questions. Former students say, “Rødde is a great place for both Christians and non-Christians!”
Just outside Trondheim, you’ll find Rødde Folk High School. A day here could include fresh snow, studio time creating new songs, cultural exchange trips, and countless opportunities to try something new. At Rødde, you’ll nurture your interests, gain experiences, and make lifelong friends.
Folk high school is a Nordic school type which has existed for over 100 years. The school year is often a break between hight school and higher education.

The school fees include program costs, study trips, meals, accommodation, and internet. We are approved by Lånekassen, so you can receive full loans and grants.
A year at folkehøgskole entitles you to loans and grants from Statens Lånekasse. For the 2024–2025 school year, the support totals NOK 137,907, with 40% converted to a grant, provided you maintain 90% attendance.
Payments from Lånekassen are larger in August and January, and the payment plan reflects this. Note that the first invoice must be paid before the first Lånekassen disbursement.
You can apply for grants and loans through Statens Lånekasse for education. Click the link for more information on how to apply.
The school has 28 double rooms with bathrooms, 20 double rooms without bathrooms, and a few single rooms with or without bathrooms. If you have medical reasons for needing a single room, please mention this in your application. Rooms are allocated shortly before the school year begins. If a student leaves or loses their place during the school year, they must pay for accommodation for six weeks after they leave. This is a common rule for folkehøgskoler in Norway.
Our skilled kitchen staff prepare special diets and vegetarian meals for those who notify us before the start of school. Allergies must be documented with a medical certificate. Special diets and vegetarian meals may incur an additional cost.
